"WINDOWS XP support ends Oct, 31th, 2014".
When I click on the notification, it didn't prompt up a help menu nor open a web browser to show me further detail of this message, so myself run a google search, search result link me back to Box.com support site: the Box Policy for Browser and OS support page and July - October, 2014 (End Of Life) EOL notice.
Which mean: Windows 8 (start support new major version) / Windows 7 (support first major version) / Windows Vista (support second major version); Windows XP (stop supporting third-oldest major version)
In technical term, Box sync 4 and future release, require the OS installed Dot Net Framework 3.5 or 4, which Dot Net Framework 4 and above is not support and not able install into Windows XP.
User may think, is the web browser is the alternative way? bad news is that: Windows XP build in web browser also have it EOL policy:
- Internet Explorer (IE) -
- Box Notes is only supported on IE10 and IE11, it will not work on earlier versions
- File/Folder Uploading on IE7, IE8, and IE9 requires Adobe Flash (drag and drop uploading not supported).
To continue using Internet Explorer in Windows XP, it require latest version, and the only version able to install in Windows XP is I.E. 9. Refer to the Box's policy, drag and drop feature is no longer support, where users require upload their file one by one: click the upload button, open the upload window, navigate to file locate directory, select the file, click upload button and wait....
In others words, not only Microsoft stop support for it own old version OS, force users to upgrade their machine to installed latest OS; even the software also stop support old version OS and force users upgrade their OS as well.
What happen if users not upgrade their OS when EOL support, the Box Sync software installed no longer can login / sign in to user's Box account.
